Water Framework Directive
Ad-hoc working group meeting in Brussels, 28 March 2000
An ad-hoc group got together to prepare the workshop on the Water Framework Directive (WFD) to be held in the course of the 8th annual conference in Sesimbra. The objective of the meeting was to identify deficiencies and positive potentials of the proposed WFD with respect to the coastal zone and integrated coastal zone management.
Participating councils:
- MiNa-Raad
- Finnish Council for Natural Ressources (FCNR)
- German Council of Environmental Advisors (SRU)
- Portuguese CNADS
- English Nature
The current status of the legislative procedure was reported, followed by remarks from the participants about the specific problems in their countries. With respect to the workshop in Sesimbra it was agreed not to go through the specific regulations in the WFD (regulation on the coastal zone), but rather brainstorm on the problems and try to structure them. It was clarified that the first step is to look at implementation problems through which deficiencies of the WFD can be identified.
